WDT Tool - Espresso Puck Prep Tool (Various Needle Sizes)

£12.00

The Weiss Distribution Technique is a method of coffee puck prep in which you use thin needles to distribute your grinds evenly throughout your puck. This is done after grinding the coffee into the portafilter to break up any clumps in the coffee and to evenly spread the particles around. The thinner needles the better as this stops the coffee being stirred around too much whilst still breaking up the clumps. This is mainly done for espresso brewing to decrease channelling and to better extract your coffee. This can be particularly useful for grinders that tend to clump up when they grind but it also helps distribution even if you grinder is not particularly clump prone.

This is a 3D printed tool which has a screw top design which holds up to 9 Needles at a time. This tool was designed by me to be a small compact alternative to some of the bulkier options on the market. The very top of the tool screws off to give you access to the needles which can be changed as required. I have needles available in two different sizes 0.35 which is a good all round needle and offers a good balance of declumping without much stirring and the needles aren't too flexible. I also have 0.25mm needles which are much thinner and more flexible but don't stir the coffee as much. You can grab a set of each if you would like to try them out with a singular tool.
